Our Whanau Teachers

Gena Bagley-Konia

Gena Bagley-Konia

Whanau Teacher for IBYG

I was born and raised in Dunedin.

After completing secondary school, I studied at Otago University. There I gained a double degree – a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Theatre Studies and English; and a Postgraduate Secondary Schools Teaching degree.

My first teaching role was at Columba College in 2004. In 2005 I started working at Mount Aspiring College. During my time at the College I have taught both Drama and English, been the head of the Drama department, and, since 2011 I have been the Head of the English Learning Area.

I am passionate about education and student achievement. I firmly believe that every individual learner is capable of their own outstanding outcomes and I challenge them to believe in themselves, to create identities for themselves and to own their own voice.

I am most proud of my family; my husband George, and particularly our three children, Scarlett, Noah and Darcy.
