Iron House News: The Iron Council

Caring is a value that we are all focused on.  We would like to remind you all that if you ever need to chat, we are available. You can find Mrs Watson-Taylor in her office beside Room 20. (If she is not there, please just leave her a note – there is always a pen and paper on her desk – and she will get back to you.) Charlotte can be found in URSpace (in the Gym Foyer) and Chris teaches from Room 23 and is usually close by.

The Iron Council

A new initiative we would like to bring to Iron House this year is the House Council. This group would be comprised of a representative range of students and Whanau from Y7 to Y13. The council would meet weekly to discuss ideas, issues, arrange activities for the House and share concerns. Student voice in our school is important; this is oneĀ way all levels will be heard. If you’d like to put yourself forward to be a rep on the Iron Council, please fill out the form at the bottom of this newsletter.

Perfect Fortnightly Grades

Our fortnightly grades system is a means of ensuring we give swift indicative feedback to you about your engagement in classroom learning. The grades are produced by teachers on a fortnightly basis (as you’d expect). Students who score a 4 in any class are exceeding expectations on many fronts, and should be proud of themselves. Students who score a 4 in every class for the whole fortnight – well they are nothing short of exceptional.

This fortnight, Iron House has an enormous number of students who have achieved a perfect average score of 4. These are: Morgan Antone, Julie Autet, Meg Breen, Eve Buckland, Angus Cagney, Aden Cassaidy, Piper Cavanagh, Lyla Chamberlain, Joseph Combe, Mae Craddock, Georgia Davies, Ayla Howard, Lia Hunter, Annabel Hutchison, Cormack Lee-Smith, Eli McArthur, Lucy Miller, Campbell Mortimer, Otis Murphy, Acasia, O’Connell, Caitlin O’Donnell, Emma Palmer, Olive Pujol, Lucy Radford, Maude Rogers, Emma Smith, Jemma Spear, Leo Staufenberg, Ryan Stembridge, Marina Susse, Lewis Turner, Hinato Watanabe, Jono Watson.

Year 13 Home Study

Year 13 students who – in the last fortnight – attended every lesson, gained an average fortnightly grade over 3 and have clocked up some volunteer hours are given “Home Study”. This means that you may sign out of the school campus and use any study periods you have at your own discretion. Your study classes will still run, and of course you’re still most welcome to take advantage of this service: a nice, warm, silent, supervised study space. Make sure you and your family have both signed your school agreement to ensure you are eligible for Home Study!

The Iron House students who have gained Home Study this fortnight – starting Thursday 19 March – are: Angus Cagney, Ethan Carleton, Annabel Carter, Renae Fitzgibbon, Zoe Labes, Emma Smith, Isobel Smith

A Note from Mrs Watson-Taylor

I would like to finish this newsletter by thanking you all for the care and love I have experienced over the past month due to my father’s illness and passing. I feel blessed being part of a house and a school that genuinely cares about each other. It means a great deal to me.

This week we launch two new initiatives: No matter what your age, you have a chance to put yourself forward for the Iron Council; and our Home Study scheme goes live.
